Situación en China y en el mundo complicadas
Dear Mr. Teodor de Mas/Albert/David ,
We would like to kindly remind you that due to following reasons the prices we have quoted you during the last Autumn Canton Fair can not be maintained:
a. Raw materials are moving up steadily, not only in China, all over the world. For example, it has been reported in the press, that the two biggest iron ore suppliers in the world, BHP from Australia and CVRD from Brazil have increased 50% of their offer of iron ore for 2008 to steel works. They pushed up the price for 38% in 2007. China is their biggest market. Whatever the final increase after hard negotiation would be, metal prices will be definitely much higher in 2008.
b. In addition Chinese inflation situation has become more seriously, which consequently makes everything more expensive.
c. The appreciation of Chinese currency against USD has been accelerated faster.
d. The export VAT refund might be reduced further in 2008.
e. Oil price is now climbing up, over USD100 per barrel.
f. Wage of Chinese workers has been under-estimated since the last ten years. The demand on a higher pay has become more intense since last year. As from the media, around 300 shoe factories were closed down in southern China therefore. A wage increase of 20-30% is expected and demanded this year. Every employer must pay more for wage and social welfare of the workers as requested by new law and regulations.
g. Authorities of all levels now more and more have recognized the importance of environmental protection, thus new investments on facilities have been made, consequently pushing the production costs obviously higher.
All these, not limited to, leads to a very big uncertainty of the development of Chinese export industry in year 2008. So prices for shipment before May will be increased for 3-5%, while prices for shipment after May will be increased for 8-15%.
We sincerely hope you could get prepared for the potential price increase for your upcoming fairs.
Of course we will try our every means to minimize the price increase and work closely with you to overcome the global hard situation.
